Willy Verginer I Rayuela

Odles, Steles, Paja and Planadices: these are the four Ladin words used by Willy Verginer to describe the different phases of wood, which is the principal material he works with. Thanks to the wood, he gives birth to narrations that tend to the absurd. “Rayuela” is his first show at Studio d’Arte Raffaelli in Trento. Here the artist presents a new series of works whose main topic is about a “game around the world”, that can be found in every culture and it is also a paradigm of the life itself. Starting from the cult book of the same name by Julio Cortazar, Verginer’s work goes through a sculptural journey, in which the wood is the main protagonist. The material is handcrafted and painted according to the symbolic density of colour. The full-size figures sculpted by the artists become alive, breaking free from the illusory rigidity of the wooden block and taking all the spaces of the gallery. In a subtle parallelism with the novel they are based on, Verginer’s works outline various paths, where every piece is autonomous and at the same time bound to the others. There is a poetic game of references, where the viewers are free to orientate or lose themselves. The use of colours - in particular pink, charming and childlike - encourages to make a mental passage, that can be translated as an invite to live purely and with amazement. The show opens on Thursday, the 15th of October with the presence of the artist. You can easily participate by taking an appointment in one of the time windows between 16:00 and 20:00. The catalogue of the show is published by Vanilla Edizioni and contains texts by Luca Beatrice, Gabriele Lorenzoni, Roberto Festi and it includes also an interview to the artist. “Rayuela” stays in the gallery until the 28th of February 2021 during the following opening hours: Monday-Friday from 9:30 to 13:30 and from 15:30 to 19:30 and on Saturday from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 16:30 to 18:30.
