Sanda Undzena

Sanda Undzena

Painter Sanda Undzena is one of the brightest young painters in Latvia. His paintings are as usual everyday - moments, photos from IG posts. Light and shadow games, bright colors, sunlight provide the effect of presence and feelings of coexistence. The iconography of the place plays a large part in Undzena's practice - with symbols, references and signage to be found in her painting. This approach integrates a lived, more human experience within urban and nature itself. Undzena is in constant dialogue between human experience and environment, more so, she mediates her own experience through reciprocal interactions and considerations of environment. In today's challenging world, her paintings strives for resolve and tranquility.

Since obtaining a master's degree at the Latvian Academy of Arts, Sanda Undzena has organized five solo exhibitions and received several awards ("Shape. Color. Line", 2009, "Young painter prize", 2012). Her works have been purchased by collectors in the USA, UK, Latvia and Lithuania.
